Upgrading is easy! First thing is to see what or how much assistance you need. Bring in or e-mail your résumé along with 3 -5 job postings / help wanted ads that you a) would like to target; or b) have already applied for but didn’t get a response to. Either in-person ( for local candidates) or via tele-consultation, our in-house résumé ‘guru’ will evaluate your document as it pertains to your job targets and determine where you are hitting the mark or missing the ball park altogether. If your résumé isn’t ‘proving the case’ that you possess all of the required qualifications / experience we will offer specific recommendations that would lead to a more desirable and lucrative outcome.

No. While the office is located in Leland, North Carolina, services are provided nationwide. Sessions are conducted by phone or online, allowing the same level of personalized attention regardless of location.
Résumé writing services are provided by a CPRW (Certified Professional Résumé Writer) with decades of experience and samples of his work in nearly two dozen books. Each résumé is written from scratch and tailored to the individual, their goals, and target roles. There are no templates or generic language. The focus is on achievements, clarity, and alignment with employer expectations rather than a laundry list of job duties. We will take the time to conduct an in-depth interview to quantify and/or qualify the effectiveness of your accomplishments and help answer two of the employer’s implicit questions: “Why should we be interested in you?” and “Why would we be better off having you on our team rather than one of the other similarly qualified candidates?” This process brings to light things you may have forgotten altogether or ‘…didn’t know you could put on a résumé!’
Yes. Career Development Resources works with professionals at all levels, including executives and senior leaders. Executive résumés require strategic positioning and language that reflects leadership scope and impact, which is incorporated into the writing process.
Yes. Career change résumés are common. The focus is on identifying transferable skills and reframing experience so it is relevant to new roles or industries, without exaggeration or misrepresentation.
Résumés are written to be clear, well organized, and easy to scan. Attention is given to strategy and language so that documents align with how employers review candidates. Readability and accuracy are prioritized over keyword stuffing. We will ensure that your résumé will stand out from the AI generated slop out there and ‘rise to the top of the stack!’
From the time we have all of the necessary information, the first draft (which is usually 85%+ of the finalized version) is ready in 2 to 3 business days, sometimes faster. Next comes the fine-tuning session (usually about a half hour) where we add some details that you may have forgotten at the beginning and then finalize your résumé.
Career counseling focuses on effective decision-making, direction, and understanding strengths, interests, and values. Career coaching focuses on development and execution of a strategic career change / job search campaign.
Career counseling is helpful during periods of uncertainty, dissatisfaction, burnout, or career transition. It is also valuable following layoffs or when considering a significant career change.
We employ both formal and informal Career Assessment tools when appropriate to identify career preferences and support career decision making. Formal assessments are administered and interpreted by a Board certified career counselor who formerly directed the Career Assessment & Counseling Center for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in the New York metro area. Assessment tools are strategically selected to help answer questions such as:
“What do I want to be when I grow up?” “I have to pick a college major ….. HELP!!!! “ “ I can’t stand my job, what kind of career should I move toward?” “ I just got (terminated) (reduced in force) / my company went out of business so what careers should I consider?”
Career coaching benefits individuals who have clear goals but need structure, effective strategies, accountability, or the confidence to move forward. It is commonly used during job searches, advancement efforts, or transitions requiring sustained focus.
Session frequency depends on goals and preferences. Some clients meet weekly for short-term support, while others prefer sessions spaced further apart. Scheduling is discussed during the initial conversation.
Career coaching can be either. Some clients use coaching for specific goals, while others choose ongoing support for continued development and accountability.
Interview coaching leads to clear communication, confident delivery, and effective responses. There is a huge difference between ‘telling’ and ‘selling’! Sessions concentrate on preparing for the types of questions employers use in selecting those candidates who will be hired. Job-seeking candidates have to know their value and understand what the interviewer’s question is really after before matching an anecdotal experience / accomplishment to the question at hand. One of our teaching strategies ( documented in Winning Interviews for $100,000+ Jobs ) works on starting the interview off on your best foot in preparing four different ways to answer that ice-breaker question “ Tell me about yourself” and then effectively using the best response. An interview isn’t an interrogation. It is a two-way meeting with a purpose. In order to achieve your goal, you have to be able to effectively sell your value to satisfy the interviewer’s implicit questions: “ Why should we hire you?” and “ Why would we be better off with you instead of one of the other, similarly qualified candidates?”
